Why had you gone to Nepal?
I had to attend a friend's wedding. Little did I know that the scariest moment of my life lay in store. Gosh! I don't know how I was lucky to escape unhurt.

We were taught in school that we should hide under the bed when the earth shakes. But who can remember such an instruction when the earthquake actually happens? I thought the fan was going to fall on my head! Shonali and I forgot our money and passport and ran into the courtyard.
And then?
The very next minute, we were without water, light and phone. There was chaos, The women were screaming. the children were crying.
How did you reach out to your family to tell them that you were safe?
After few hours, the phones started working! And I think that was a miracle. And everyone started calling up his near and dear ones.
I couldn't reach my parents on the phone and quickly sent out a message to them, saying that I’m okay. They called me and I spoke to them.
I couldn't speak to Mr Mahesh Bhatt (Kunal's mentor, who has produced all his films till now except Raja Natwarlal) though. But he posted something for me on Twitter which would enable me to get in touch with the Mission Commander. I could have got into the airforce plane and reached Mumbai--- but I saw a lot of people who had got injured and decided to hold myself back.
Then, we decided to walk down to the airport. We thought we should try our luck. But the airport was shut. The temperature had dropped to 5 degrees. We didn't have too many clothes. There was no food, we could barely get one meal in a day.
How could you walk down from hotel to airport?
The distance wasn't much and the roads were absolutely empty.
So when you finally reached the airport, what was the atmosphere like?

We had to wait for long at the airport. Our flight was re-routed to Delhi and Lucknow because of air traffic congestion. Even when it reached the Kathmandu airport, it was hovering above for long. It finally landed at the airport 48 hours behind schedule and just then, there was another strong tremor. We were worried then that our flight wouldnt take off.
But you must have been relieved once you sat in the aircraft...

We had to wait in the plane for 3 hours. Till it didnt take off, we were not sure if we will get out of Kathmandu because tremors were still being felt.
What about the facilities that were being provided by the Nepal government?

Supplies like medicines, blankets and food were being given to the victims. At the airport, a few shops were serving coffee, tea and biscuits, but these too would get over as soon as they came. We got some food but did not eat much as there were no toilets. However, we didnt get anything from the relief centres.
Usually, tragedies like these unite people together. Was there a sense of unity among people there?

You get to see all kinds of people during such a time. Some were panicking and running from one plane to another, others were calm. Everyone was trying to distract themselves from this intense situation some would click pictures, some were just walking and talking even at night. Of course, people were disturbed but didnt make any kind of ruckus.
Nothing but rest. And I switched off my phone.
Has the industry reached out to you?
Has the industry reached out to you?
Not really. Emraan Hashmi and his wife called yesterday, and we went for a film in the evening.
Are you tempted to make a film whose story revolves around an earthquake?
Are you tempted to make a film whose story revolves around an earthquake?
Never. It was such a devastating experience, and you want me to relive it! I want to forget the Nepal earthquake.
Are you getting nightmares?
Are you getting nightmares?
I am not seeing the news channels ever since I came back. I don't want to see the visuals. I have not been able to sleep since I returned. Last night, I woke up feeling that my bed was shaking. I am slightly better now, but I need some rest.
